The world’s biggest ransomware attack hits a hospital
A world-first ransomware attack hit a hospital in a remote corner of Yemen, shutting down all but two patients in a medical facility.
The hospital was attacked by the ransomware and some of its equipment was seized, but there was no immediate word on how many patients were affected.
The hospital was established in 2015 as an alternative to traditional healthcare facilities in a rural area of the country, and has a limited capacity, according to the hospital’s website.
The group behind the attack claimed responsibility, though it has not claimed responsibility for the attack, as a medical institution would be a clear violation of its license.
A number of hospitals in Yemen have reported that their staff and equipment was stolen.
A group of hackers, known as the Arabian Health Coalition, has targeted hospitals and clinics in recent months, but has not targeted a hospital as yet.
Hospital security experts say the attacks are a clear attempt to take over hospitals by spreading ransomware.
The ransomware encrypts files on infected computers, and then it demands payment for the privilege.
The ransom is usually $200 to $300 for a single computer.
The virus infects a computer without the user’s knowledge, so if the computer is infected, the virus will remain on the machine even after the ransom has been paid.
Hospitals can only be targeted by the attackers, who then steal data and equipment from the hospitals, the experts say.
The hospitals in the attack were not immediately available for comment.
The attack happened in the town of Saqdah, according a tweet from the Saudi-based health ministry.
The ministry later clarified that Saqmah is not the only one targeted in the incident.
The Ministry of Health said the attack was “in addition to” other attacks in Yemen.
“The attack on Saqdam Hospital in Yemen has been confirmed by all hospitals in and around the country,” the ministry said.
“All other hospitals and facilities are operating normally.
All affected hospitals and medical centers are being managed by the local health authorities.”
According to the Saudi Gazette, the hospital in Saqdaah was attacked after the group that threatened to kill staff there called for a strike.
A message posted on social media said the hospital was “unable to provide adequate medical care and services.”
It is not known how many hospitals were affected in the case, but the health ministry said it was the largest attack to hit an affected hospital in the country.
The attackers also targeted the hospital of another medical center in the city of Saada.
The Saudi Gazette also said that a group of “terrorists” were responsible for the attacks, though they have not named any groups.
It also said a security camera captured the attackers entering the hospital, but that the attackers did not use any weapons.
