What to know about the new memorial to a 13-year-old girl killed in a car accident at Louie Memorial Hospital in Katy
The girl who was killed in the accident at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Houston has been named Laurence Gilmore.
Gilmore was the only person in the hospital at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead on arrival, according to a statement from the hospital.
Her name has not been released.
The hospital released a statement saying the family is grateful for the outpouring of support and wishes to extend their sincere condolences to the Gilmore family and the entire family.
Gilmore, who was the fifth-youngest in the state, was pronounced deceased at 5:27 p.m.
Friday, according with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Gilmore’s mother, Lisa Gilmore, wrote on Facebook that her daughter “was a beautiful and kind young lady who made the world a better place and her spirit is in the hearts of everyone in this great state.”
Laurie Gilmore is the fifth child to die in a motorcycle crash in Texas since July 2015.
Her mother posted a photo on Facebook of her daughter and wrote, “I love you Laurence.”
The statement also said Laurie was a “loving, caring and devoted mother to four wonderful boys and a loving wife.”
A photo of Laurence with her mother, Laurie Gilmore, and her sister, Kayla, is on the Louie memorial website.
Laurie Gilmore’s father, Robert Gilmore, also posted a message on Facebook about the accident, saying, “We are all very grateful for all of the prayers and support from the entire Louie family, friends, and community, which has touched our hearts so much over the last few days.”
The Texas Department for Children and Families said the investigation is ongoing.
The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Houston Police Department are handling the investigation, the statement said.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The Texas Rangers will be in Houston to work with the state investigation team, the agency said in a statement.
“While we will not be releasing the full circumstances of the case until the investigation has been completed, we are confident that we will get the facts and make the correct determination,” the agency wrote.
“The tragic loss of a beautiful, sweet, young girl will never be in vain.
We will do everything in our power to help the family and their loved ones in any way we can,” the statement added.
In September, a Houston woman who drove through a red light at a traffic light and hit a woman and her dog was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
