UAB, ALABAMA — The Associated Press reported that UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, has contracted a rare coronavirus that has sickened more than 70 people.
The hospital is in lockdown, and patients are being asked to stay home.
The AP also reported that the virus is in Alabama and Texas, and was first identified in UAB patients.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed the outbreak at UAB.
The UAB Health System is working with state and local health officials to isolate the virus.
UAB is located in Alabama’s capital, Birmingham.
